Tell us a bit about your career history
After graduating from Nottingham with a degree in History, I naturally fell into teaching, but I wanted to be more creative and challenge myself, so I started dabbling in coding and really enjoyed it! After a while working as a web developer, I started combining both teaching and coding, first working with Girls Who Code as a lead instructor, teaching girls from around the world how to code, and eventually I ran my own course designed to get more young women into STEM by teaching them HTML, CSS and Javascript, and running a work experience programme for them.Â
Please share a memorable career highlight
I saw on LinkedIn that one of the 16 year old girls I taught in my coding course is now a network engineer apprentice at Sky and she’s absolutely loving it! It’s a great feeling to know that you’re making a difference to someone else’s life.Â
What are you most proud of achieving?
Learning to code while teaching full time through a pandemic was tough, but it was well worth it. I can still remember writing my first line of CSS to make a title go purple and being so proud!
Where would you like your career to go in the future?
I really enjoy the creative aspect of my job – building sites that surprise you or act in interesting ways. I’d love to continue to grow in this area, and Framework Design is the perfect place to do this.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
I started playing rugby last year and absolutely love it! There’s nothing like taking your coding frustrations out with a good dump tackle!
