From apprentice developer to lead developer I have over ten years of experience, I started my career at just 17. While most people my age were heading off to university, I was keen to get stuck into work, driven by a genuine interest in technology and computers. A role in web development turned out to be the perfect fit.

Ten years on, I am now working a lead developer at Framework, working across both front-end and back-end technologies including Laravel, Statamic, Vue, React and WordPress.

My careers highlights so far including working on a selection of sports websites utilising a bespoke Laravel CMS and working on a whole host of tech to deliver mobile apps using Ionic and Nuxt (Vue). I always prize myself and my ability to breakdown and digest technical problems and have a track record for delivering bespoke projects on time and on budget.

Over the next 5 years I want to continue much of the same, honing my skills even further across Laravel and Vue and keep up to date with the latest trends including AI and automation. Another passion I want to expand up-on is my open source contribution to the Laravel community which is something I have made a start on this year contributing to the Laravel starter kits and to Nuno Maduro’s packages and kits.

My perfect tech stack is Laravel with Vue using Inertia, so really my dream project is a something build upon this tech stack. I really enjoy building type safe code inclusing e2e types from my PHP into my Typescript which is something Inertia excels at.

I am an avid golfer and can often be found out on the course or practising my swing at the driving range. When i’m not playing, I am most likely spending long afternoons hiking through the Peak District with his wife. A true tech enthusiast, Josh also keeps up with the latest in the industry and enjoys a good podcast on his commute to work.

Before starting my apprenticeship, I was actually training to become an a pilot, aiming for a career in commercial aviation as an airline pilot. However, those plans changed after a mountain bike accident left me with a reconstructed shoulder, bringing my flight training and career prospects to an abrupt end.
