Tell us about your career history.
When I finished school, I was unsure of my career path and worked in various warehouse operative roles on zero-hour contracts for two years. However, I soon realised that I needed a change and decided to pursue a degree in Software Engineering at university. During my studies, I developed a strong interest in web technologies, which led me to focus on building a classic car maintenance web application using Laravel for my final year project. Graduating in 2018 with first-class honors, this project played a pivotal role in securing my first job in the industry at a leading software-as-a-service legal tech company. In May 2023, I joined Framework, where I am excited to take on new challenges and contribute to the team’s success.
Please share a memorable career highlight.
A memorable career highlight for me was the opportunity to train multiple apprentices. Witnessing their growth and development throughout the process was truly rewarding. As their mentor, I provided guidance, shared my knowledge and expertise, and helped them navigate the intricacies of our industry. It was fulfilling to see each of them acquire new skills, gain confidence, and become integral parts of our team.
What are you most proud of achieving?
When my girlfriend and I were house hunting, it was quite a hassle to find a place that checked all our boxes while still being conveniently located for both of us. I dug into the developer console of a well-known property website and uncovered an API that let me filter to only the houses that met our criteria. I then utilized the Google Directions API to eliminate any homes that were impractical for commuting via public transport. We still live in the same house that I found using this method!
Where would you like your career to go in the future?
I honestly don’t mind where my career takes me as long as I am enjoying what I do and still learning new things. I would love to be able to explore the field of machine learning and artificial intelligence.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
In my spare time, I enjoy gaming, running, biking, and DIY projects around the house. It’s a mix of virtual adventures, outdoor activities, and hands-on creativity that keeps me engaged and fulfilled.
